The purpose of East Side Baptist Church is to glorify the Lord through our worship and service. We accomplish this by edifying the body and winning the lost. East Side Baptist Church is an independent Baptist Church located in Memphis, Tennessee. We are three miles northeast of interstate 240 on Covington Pike and are easily accessible from the greater metro area.
Our History

On March 5, 1972, seventeen people met at the home of Bro. Joe and Zora Bomprezzi for the first service of East Side Baptist Church. Their home was at 762 Vaughn and services were held there until April 16th. Services were moved to the home of Gene and Gay Guthrie (1758 Rhonda) where they met in the carport. Bro Edwin Long preached the first eight Sundays, while the church awaited the arrival of Bro Teddy Steele who was called to pastor the new work.
Bro Teddy preached his first sermon on April 30, 1972. The church continued to meet at the Guthries' until Sunday, July 2nd when they moved to our present location.
Services were held in the house, which is now our offices, until the first auditorium was constructed in 1973. This building is now Sunday School rooms and offices. Our present auditorium was constructed in 1983, and our first service in it was on January 15, 1984.
In 1998, the church voted to build a Christian Activities Center (CAC). The primary purpose of the CAC was not recreation, but to develop Christian character, strengthen family ties and build fellowship. The building was mostly complete in Jan. 2000 at a cost of approx 1.3 million dollars. As of August 2011 this debt is paid.
